Maintaining an established identity, opening the door to innovation
The USDA (U.S. Department of Agriculture) came to us in search of a workplace that could allow it to build on a history of success and reputation for reliability, but also adapt to the future.
Our goal was to design a workplace for this marketing group that could be used as a tool to recruit talent while inspiring productivity and retention. We framed the design around four key zones: a conference room at the core of the space, individual workspaces which include both closed offices and workstations, a lab customized for the needs of this office, and a communal space for all-hands gatherings.
Along the way, we made sure to build on the established brand identity of the USDA, while implementing new playful elements to generate energy and engagement in its people. We chose flexible furniture systems, modern finish materials, and a strong color palette to give this office a strong sense of place and purpose.
Our resulting design offers a balance of privacy and collaboration, traditional and modern, past and future. We created a new place that enables the USDA to embrace new ways of working.
