Connecting communities while eliminating potential safety concerns
The Colchester Campus Connector isn’t just a road; it’s a unique corridor that serves both vehicles and pedestrians alike. The connector helps join area communities in a safer and more efficient way than before. Prior to the project, it was difficult for students at the local college to get from one section of campus to another. Their previous route had developed more and more safety concerns year after year.
This new two-lane road is equipped with two four-foot bike lanes and a multiuse path. These alternate forms of transportation are easy to use and help promote healthy transportation methods—good for the body and the environment.
We helped add an environmentally conscious stormwater infiltration treatment system to make sure there was minimal impact to the surrounding environment. Through a public process involving the input of VTrans, the Army National Guard of Camp Johnson, Town constituents, the college, and residents, all stakeholders’ viewpoints were heard and addressed—which gave everyone a voice to create a successful project based on collaboration.
