Improving reliability and access to essential ferries
Located at the mouth of the Brisbane River, Moreton Bay is home to many island communities that are heavily reliant on ferries. Looking to improve services and facilities and the enhance accessibility for all passengers, the Department of Transport and Main Roads engaged our team to create detailed designs to upgrade four terminals in the Bay.
The detailed designs cover all ferry terminal infrastructure, including pontoons and supporting systems, gangways, canopy structures and jetties. We also designed land-side shelters adjacent to the ferry terminals and the repurposing of existing facilities for recreational purposes. Our team of architects and engineers delivered four bespoke ferry terminal designs to meet the challenges of each island’s specific topography and metocean conditions, demand, and public accessibility requirements. As well, we developed and produced design documentation suitable for stakeholder and community consultation, prepared and lodged all statutory approval applications, and supported the tendering of the construction phase by responding to Requests for Information. Following this, our team provided construction services.
With the upgrade now complete, the terminals offer increased security and seating, drinking fountains, improved waiting areas, and better weather protection.
