Helping revitalize Seaspan’s Vancouver shipyard operations
In 2011, Seaspan was awarded the contract to build new non-combat ships for the National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy Program (NSPS). The shipyard modernization program provides modern, efficient facilities to ensure the execution of the NSPS Program, including the design and construction of a block assembly shop, pre-outfitting shop, sub-assembly shop, maintenance shop, blast and paint shop, warehouse, and 300-tonne gantry crane with special foundation and rails.
Additionally, this fast-tracked project involved a load out pier for launching new ships, a new 69kV substation, a central compressed air plant, upgraded process equipment, and re-locating the existing wastewater treatment facility. We also performed an extensive amount of site services, including water, sanitary, storm, process gases, and electrical distribution lines.
Ultimately, the project transformed Vancouver Shipyards into the most modern facility of its kind in North America. Our efforts helped Seaspan to deliver vessels for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy while providing a greater potential to compete in the international market for commercial shipbuilding work.
