Arlington Transit Bus Operations and Maintenance Facility

Arlington Transit’s new facility centralizes bus fleet maintenance and supports commitment to carbon neutrality by 2050

New operations and maintenance facility incorporates sustainability and efficiency into its design

Arlington Transit’s (ART’s) bus service across 16 routes provides safe, cost-effective, and environmentally sustainable transportation to riders. Committed to providing environmentally friendly alternatives to driving alone and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, ART wanted a partner who respected these goals and selected our team to design their new operations and maintenance facility with associated parking structure.

Our design integrates a Modern Industrial expression with the optimal operational layout to deliver an exterior character aligned with the regional planning vision established by Arlington County. We selected materials for the larger high-performance facades based on longevity, resilience, and durability with passive elements. To further support ART’s 2050 goal of carbon neutrality, our zero-emission technology experts are performing predictive power modeling with our ZEVDecide modeling tool to assess the fleet charging requirements in order to identify the optimal charging solution for a successful transition to zero emission.

Once constructed, the new building will centralize maintenance for ART’s bus fleet and allow for more efficient service to travelers.
