Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) MS4 TMDL Planning
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is the governing institution responsible for transportation in Virginia, United States. When VDOT developed the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Permit Program, they called on our team to lead the endeavor. To help out, we would step in as the lead for statewide stormwater infrastructure and design projects.
The MS4 program would include over 3000 miles of roadway—which meant a lot of maintenance. Our team also developed MS4 program manuals and tracked compliance for VDOT’s Chesapeake Bay Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Action Plan and local TMDL Action Plans.
Throughout the project, we’ve also been developing compliance databases for nutrient accounting, best management practices, and outfalls. Moreover, our work includes performing outfall reconnaissance, inventory service field missions, developing field protocols, conducting stormwater training for VDOT employees, and providing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping services.
Most importantly, we’re generating technical memorandums and reports to summarize methodologies, findings, results, and recommendations for the Virginia community.
