Welcoming travelers to New York State
This 13,825 square foot facility is one of 11 welcome centers across New York State. Including a 2,500 square foot addition, the Southern Tier Welcome Center re-opened as a modern facility to serve as the gateway to New York from Pennsylvania.
Taking inspiration from the scenery that makes the Southern Tier a travel destination, our landscape design incorporates a life-sized “I love New York” sculpture that overlooks the Susquehanna river valley. Other features include a motorcycle shelter, car charging station, an entry sign featuring a NASCAR, and a walk of fame to commemorate famous residents.
The building addition is a carousel-themed seating area that celebrates the carousel capital of the world—Binghamton, New York. Terrazzo flooring in the lobby incorporates the outline of the Southern Tier with brass inlays that highlight local attractions. In the expanded Taste NY Market, travelers will also now be able to sample locally sourced food and beverage products from the region, like Southern Tier's famous spiedies.
A truly collaborative effort, our team worked closely with several New York State agencies on a fast-tracked schedule to complete this unique facility.
