    Dona Ana County, New Mexico

Considering the needs of both residents and recreational users of a busy road

Residents of Dona Ana County have grown increasingly concerned with the uptick in traffic and speeds along Baylor Canyon Road. The 6.7-mile stretch is heavily traveled by the public on the way to hiking, biking, and walking trails, as well as ranchers who need access to their lands.

Our team is assisting the County in evaluating existing conditions along the corridor and identifying safety and access improvements. We’ve utilized both traditional and technological methods to engage the public and stakeholders in input meetings. Understanding the unique needs of the public and residents has been key to developing alternatives to improve multi-modal travel, as well as implementing traffic and speed calming measures. These include a combination of dedicated bike and pedestrian paths while maintaining a narrow roadway width, dynamic speeds signs, and improved signage.

When complete, these changes will allow residents to enjoy the local amenities without worrying about their safety.
