Improving traffic flow along two critical junctions
In response to the city’s growth and development, the City of Saskatoon wanted to combine two new interchanges into one design-build project. We were there to help.
We worked with the City and local developers to consider multiple growth scenarios possible in Saskatoon. We also looked at the associated traffic implications, assessing multiple scenarios to improve traffic congestion on the two major corridors. Following this, our team led the preliminary planning, procurement, design, and construction phases. The final concept design considered various geometric standards from the Transportation Association of Canada, provincial and local standards, and various pedestrian and cyclist considerations—this was challenging due to the rigid geometric constraints at both sites due to the adjacent neighborhoods.
The project was one of the first major infrastructure projects within the city to implement the Saskatoon’s new wetland policy, which led to the rehabilitation and restoration of multiple significant wetlands. With the work now complete, traffic flow has been improved significantly along the major corridors.
