A contemporary pedestrian-friendly mixed-use development respecting the area’s history with a unique covered bridge feature
Focusing on 21st century lifestyle choices, we developed the master plan for this 60-acre mixed-use development. Sensitive to the desire for convenience, public gathering spaces, relief from auto-dependence, and beauty, we created a contemporary live/work environment with an open landscaped pedestrian town square surrounded by four-story buildings designed in a South Carolina "low-country" motif.
With over 650,000 square feet of retail and commercial spaces, and 1,100 residential units, we planned for the shopping to be at street level with office space or residential units on the upper levels. The plan also includes a light-rail train station for future transportation use—paired with the office space, this creates a place for modern, transit-oriented development.
The developer asked for a unique icon to identify and brand the new Antiquity community. This prompted us to focus on the area’s history and create the design for a covered bridge at the residential entrance, and a bell tower introducing the commercial area. Our efforts in creating this vibrant new community included architecture, buildings engineering, civil engineering, and water quality design.
