Achieving LEED Silver certification and supporting our client’s mission
In support of the F-35A beddown program at Eielson Air Force Base, the Department of Defense selected Stantec as the lead design firm for a new dining facility at this remote Alaska location. The new facility, near the primary platform of the base, will greatly improve the working conditions for airmen.
The facility includes a commercial kitchen, locker area, office, staff restroom, and storage room. A dining room with seating area, aisles, patron restrooms, and an arctic entryway were also included. The facility was designed with special foundations and structural systems to withstand wind loads, seismic effects and arctic conditions. We also provided interior design and civil site design services. Due to the location of the dining facility, a jet blast shield was installed between the dining facility and the Aircraft Maintenance Unit 8-bay weather shelter. The blast deflector was designed to provide protection for the full length of the facility and extends beyond the facility to provide protection for parking and pedestrians.
Now complete, the dining facility accommodates 900 meals per day for active-duty personnel. The facility achieved LEED Silver certification for successfully incorporating green building strategies into the design, providing a more sustainable building that benefits the US Air Force mission.
