A park boasting new trails and gathering areas and decorated with indigenous plants and educational wayfinding

Situated in the Laguna Coast Greenbelt and Orange County’s National Nature Preserve, the Aliso Wood Canyons Wilderness Park is home to an array of indigenous plants and wildlife.

We helped Orange County Parks transform the site’s temporary resources into long-term amenities for everyone to enjoy, including new picnic tables and seating areas. True to the park’s surrounding habitat, our landscape architects implemented a plant palette of local California species.

Salvaging much of the park’s existing materials—timber headers, lodge pole fencing, boulders, and granite—we created safe, beautiful pedestrian pathways, and an eco-friendly, permeable parking lot surface features an electric vehicle charging station. To manage water usage and costs, we designed a recycled water irrigation system using bubblers and drips, ideal for low-volume watering plants. Once the plants are established, they will survive and flourish relying only on the natural seasonal moisture.

Serving as an outdoor classroom for students of all ages, Aliso Wood Canyons Wilderness Park covers approximately 4,500 acres of open space and trails and provides access to some of Southern California’s popular coastal canyon and ridgeline trails.
