Designing and constructing a new water-supply main line to service the City of Moose Jaw
The City of Moose Jaw had one source of potable water—a steel supply line (with a 600-millimetre diameter) that had been installed in 1955. It was approaching the end of its service life, so the City asked us to come up with preliminary designs for various replacement options and then to implement the chosen design.
The winning design was a 20-kilometre long DR 32.5 PVC water supply pipeline (at a diameter of 750 millimetres). The new water supply line starts at the Buffalo Pound Water Treatment Plant (BPWTP) and crosses highway routes (including Trans-Canada Highways 1 and 2), energy pipelines, power lines, and rural and municipal roadways.
In addition to the pipeline, we also designed the replacement of supporting pumping and electrical equipment at BPWTP and other equipment at the North East Reservoir and High Service Reservoir.
With this new potable water supply in place, the City of Moose Jaw and its surrounding areas will meet today’s needs as well as increasing demands well into the future.
