Whether it’s supporting full-scale operations or doing lab work and pilot testing, Michael believes that spending time in the field helps to build a solid engineering practice. Getting to know any facility he works with by talking to the people who know it best—its operators—is key.
Michael has experience with conventional and advanced treatment process engineering for water, wastewater, water reuse, site remediation, and waste management projects. He’s worked on granular media filtration at large facilities in Southern California and for projects around the world. He’s also been part of groundbreaking potable reuse projects. These include the Pure Water San Diego and Antelope Valley programs as well as Santa Monica’s Sustainable Water Infrastructure Project, where he specializes in reverse osmosis, brine management, membrane bioreactors, and system-level operational impacts.
As part of the Stantec Institute, Michael has worked on bench-, pilot-, demo-, and full-scale research and published papers about potable reuse treatment options and emerging contaminants in the environment.
When he isn’t collaborating with his team, Michael loves spending time with his wife and exploring with his kids. He values serving his community and has volunteered at his synagogue, at health centers and soup kitchens, as well as for educational programs and local environmental restoration.
