Helping Center Parcs secure planning permission for a proposed 395-acre village in County Longford in the Republic of Ireland.
Due to open in Summer 2019, Centre Parcs will open its long-awaited Longford Forest village. Based near Ballymahon, it will be the very first of Centre Parc’s holiday villages in Ireland.
In total, the construction includes 470 lodges, 30 apartments, more than 100 indoor and outdoor family activities, a range of restaurants and shops, a spa, and a swimming pool. As a key client adviser for the project, we’ve been engaged in developing the detailed design of the enabling works and off-site highway improvements. We also developed the on-site infrastructure including major earthworks, roads, parking, and drainage, as well as structural engineering for the central facilities and ancillary buildings.
The topography and ground conditions of the site introduced some new project challenges, with excavation of approximately 300,000 cubic metres to create the central sports lake and build platforms, and internal road infrastructure extending to 11 km through the sensitive forest environment. Care has been taken throughout the masterplanning and design process to preserve the flora and fauna, which includes stringent protection of salmon spawning grounds within the adjoining river.
Once open, the park will allow families to explore the beautiful surroundings of the Irish countryside while also taking part in a range of indoor and outdoor activities.
