Sustainable site and building design strategies increase operational efficiency and reduce long-term operating costs
Looking to expand services on their industrial site, Summit County engaged us to lead the design of their new Fleet Maintenance & Road and Bridge Facility.
We designed the facility with energy-saving features and technology throughout. Daylighting from windows and reflective floors limit electricity usage in the building. A solar wall cuts heating costs by warming the air before it enters the building, and insulated walls, constructed largely from recycled materials, help with interior temperature control. The facility is also equipped with a pole-mounted photovoltaic solar power system.
Our improvements for the site include a 10-kilowatt photovoltaic array, native vegetation, and one-way counterclockwise traffic flow to improve safety and operational efficiency. A new storm sewer collects snow melt and direct runoff to the on-site detention area.
The new facility state-of-the-art maintenance and operations space for all Summit Stage and County fleet vehicles. These include a transit office and vehicle maintenance garage, stand-alone drive through bus wash bay with a multi-use fuel island and bulk fuel storage area as well as one fabrication, four automotive, and ten heavy-duty bays.
