Collaboration between defense communities and military installations helps successfully shape a shared resilient future
The City of Annapolis partnered with Anne Arundel County and Naval Support Activity (NSA) Annapolis, which includes the U.S. Naval Academy, to undertake a military installation resiliency review to chart a path for the long-term sustainability of NSA Annapolis and the surrounding region. The City contracted with our team to help.
Using our approach presented in “Advancing Resilience for Defense Communities: A Planning Framework,” we assisted the community and installation in assessing vulnerabilities, risks, and hazards. Additionally, the group identified and prioritized for investment critical infrastructure and services necessary to protect and enhance both community and installation sustainability.
This community-led project represents a cooperative effort to identify and implement actions to increase the installation military value, preserve the military mission, and promote continued community growth and economic development. The resulting resilience action plan presents prioritized projects and potential funding sources for actions beyond the installation boundaries in response to the combined effects of land subsidence, sea level rise, coastal flooding, storm surges, and inadequate stormwater management.
