Providing solutions for three critical water challenges in Buckeye.
All facilities reach an end to their intended lifecycle and then need to be rehabilitated or replaced—this happened with the City of Buckeye’s Sonoran Vista Water Treatment Plant. The City chose to design and develop a water campus using a progressive design build delivery approach to address the plant’s deteriorating state, as well as additional water capacity for future growth and water quality of its underground water supply.
As lead designer, our team helped concurrently develop a master plan and design and construct early work, including two 1.5 MGD extraction wells, a new 4 million-gallon (MG) reservoir, and approximately 4 miles of new conveyance pipeline. The master plan adopts a phased approach to meet the City’s future water demand. The initial phase is 6 MGD followed by two additional phases to achieve the 16 MGD total capacity.
During planning, we also completed pilot testing of multiple treatment options to help inform future treatment plant design. The team has continued to advance the planning and design of the 8 MGD treatment facility with RO and brine management, as well as the ancillary water campus infrastructure. The result? Capacity needs are being met, and the city can enjoy safe, clean drinking water for years to come.
