Expanding manufacturing capabilities and increasing production volume
Luitpold specializes in the manufacture of injectable parenteral pharmaceutical products. We designed a 52,000 square foot addition alongside an interior renovation of nearly 30,000 square feet with two primary goals in mind: expanded manufacturing capabilities and increased production volume.
Designing a state-of-the-art pharmaceutical manufacturing facility is complex. One challenge was the integration of processing equipment and utility requirements into the architectural envelope. Another was maintaining manufacturing operations without interruption.
Leveraging the strength of our integrated team of architects and multidisciplinary engineers, we collaborated with our client as well as process equipment vendors to develop a comprehensive set of equipment coordination drawings and a phased approach to construction.
When the FDA called for sound aseptic processing line design, we integrated isolation technology within the areas dedicated to aseptic filling operations. This means greater sterility assurance which results in less contamination—and less wasted product.
Instead of the traditional cleanroom design, the implementation of isolator technology will reduce the overall footprint of the aseptic processing area. It also reduces the volume of air that the HVAC system has to handle, significantly decreasing the long-term operating costs for the facility.
