Gum Springs Park Renovations

The grand reopening of Gum Springs Park in March 2024 marks the first major upgrade to this beloved community space in 45 years—and we helped make it happen. The City of Shawnee entrusted us to help transform this 9.7-acre (3.9-hectare) park into an even more vibrant space.

We provided the master plan, design, and construction oversight of this $3.7 million project. By integrating advanced design and construction techniques, our team helped to significantly renew the park. Improvements include a one-of-its kind playground centerpiece called “Lunia,” a unique 30-foot-tall (9-metre-tall) play structure resembling a hot air balloon that contains a climbing net. Additional playground features include various ropes, ladders, trampolines, bridges, and swings—all designed to be Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant and promote motor skills development and imaginative play. The baseball fields have new dugouts, fences, shelters, and expanded spectator seating with ample shade and advanced fan protection barriers. A new ten-foot-wide (3- metre-wide), half-mile (.8-kilometre) walking loop, has been upgraded from asphalt to cement for easier maintenance and year-round durability.

With this revitalization underscoring the City’s commitment to create sustainable and accessible community spaces, Gum Springs Park will remain a cherished and vibrant part of the Shawnee community for years to come.
