Helping to transform a former manufactured gas plant site at a public park on the Detroit
DTE Gas, along with the City of Detroit, saw an opportunity to remediate its Station A site at a park on the Detroit River that was being upgraded. Once the location of a manufactured gas plant, the site needed to be restored to meet environmental standards. DTE turned to us for help.
With a goal of being ready for opening the renovated Riverside Park in 2019, our team needed to advance through the project efficiently. Our job? Completing a feasibility study, remedial action plan, and performing construction administration and management. To meet the expedited schedule, access agreements were obtained from multiple parties concurrently and an engineering design was prepared that allowed for excavation immediately adjacent to the Detroit River without damage to the existing seawall. To prevent potential structural issues, instruments were installed to monitor deep subsurface seawall movement during excavation and sheet piling was installed adjacent to a storm sewer pump house
As the City of Detroit renovation plans were still being finalized during the remediation efforts, our landscape architects worked with the city to develop a grading plan that met their needs. The result? Seamless transition from the remediation efforts to the renovation phase.
