A long-range plan to guide the development, expansion, maintenance, and operations of Bastrop’s parks and recreation system
Serving as the county seat of Bastrop County near Austin, the fast-growing City of Bastrop provides recreation services for all county residents—in the unique and historic natural environment of the Colorado River and Lost Pines Forest. But an ever-increasing population has put a strain on Bastrop’s 12 existing parks and three trails, so the City looked to us for a solution.
We assessed the current conditions of the existing parks, recreational facilities, trails, and open spaces. Our team also reviewed additional influences that continue to inform growth, development patterns, and connectivity. Leading a robust community engagement process in both English and Spanish, we sought the public’s input on a vision and goals for recreational facilities and programs. Our efforts included stakeholder groups, ambassador interviews, community workshops, pop-up events, and community surveys. We developed a 10-year master plan that includes a trail connectivity plan and sports facility feasibility study alongside recommendations and implementation strategies for all of Bastrop’s parks, recreations, trails, and open spaces.
Now with the master plan unanimously approved and adopted by the City, the growing community will be able to enjoy Bastrop’s parks and trails for decades to come.
