One of the first proton therapy centres to be fully integrated into a comprehensive cancer centre

Usually, proton centers are free-standing facilities. Rather than going with the typical design, our client wanted to treat proton therapy as one more tool in the fight against cancer.

This center is a significant part of a comprehensive cancer center, which includes the traditional modalities of radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and medical oncology. This also means putting state-of-the art cancer treatment at the fingertips of the community and the region.

Additionally, the center includes a new pediatrics clinic carefully designed to give children and their families a sense of comfort and healing. One of three new full-rotational treatment gantries is dedicated for pediatrics proton treatment, and PET/CT imaging is located adjacent to the pediatric suite for ease of movement. It will also be accessible for adult patients for simulation and/or post-treatment diagnostics.

The design has generous space for patient waiting, check-in/registration, and family sub-waiting space. It accommodates physician offices, exam rooms, pre-treatment positioning space, nursing support, prep, and recovery support for both proton therapy and PET/CT imaging.

With this new facility, the people of Miami have easier access to all forms of cancer treatment.
