The largest capital program ever undertaken by Metro Vancouver

Metro Vancouver is upgrading one of its largest wastewater treatment plants in a way that improves the connection between infrastructure, the community, and the environment—with a C$9.9 billion multi-year program. We’re providing an integrated multidisciplinary team to collaborate with the owner’s team. Together we’re bringing a broad range of program management and technical support services needed to successfully deliver the program.

The multi-year program includes constructing a new 516 megalitres (136 million gallons) per day tertiary filtration facility, which will benefit the surrounding waters along with associated ecological restoration and off-site works projects. In addition, the program seeks to address potential sea level rise and mitigate climate change impacts on the facility into the future by incorporating sea level rise adaptation measures. These include tidal habitat restoration projects such as breaches and breakwaters. We’re also enhancing seismic resiliency of structures to help them withstand earthquakes.

Focusing on sustainable resource recovery, the upgraded plant will integrate with surrounding ecological restoration efforts and provide economic opportunities for local First Nations
