Enhancing facilities for the boating and fishing community
The new $25-million Townsville Recreational Boating Park is the largest facility of its kind in the southern hemisphere. The 16-lane facility was constructed on the Ross River in South Townsville, providing the fishing and boating community with a safe and convenient start and end to their journey.
With this project sitting in our Townsville team’s backyard, we were pleased to be engaged as the principal design consultant. Our scope of works included 360 vehicle-trailer car parks, road and intersection upgrades, public car parking, enhanced open space, entry statement, stormwater quality management, contamination management, lighting, CCTV, signage and way finding, public amenities, engineering services including crime prevention through environmental design and Disability Discrimination Act considerations, and noise attenuation to adjacent residences. We also delivered offshore facilities including four lane boat ramps, two of which are piled.
The boating park is now open and fully functional, serving the fishing and boating community in Townsville as well as the wider community with playgrounds, picnic facilities, and public nature spaces.
