Helping Camden Council build a track for all riders that complies with international standards
Camden’s BMX (bicycle motocross) facilities were outdated—the locals had been using old structures that no longer complied with modern BMX standards. Coupled with substantial population growth of the area and increasing popularity of BMX, a new, larger track was needed for events at club, state, and national levels. Camden Council to the rescue—they engaged us as the main consultant for planning and pre-construction design services for a new track at Kirkham Park.
With funding restricted at the start of the project, our design enabled construction to be staged. We undertook geotechnical investigations, civil design of the track area, and structural design of the dual ramps. Working closely with a specialist BMX track designer, our Civil team modelled the track using 12d Model to comply with Union Cycliste Internationale standards. The international-level facility features five-metre and eight-metre dual start ramps that cater to major events and double as a training facility for elite and developing riders of all ages. There’s also a marshalling area with staging shelter and a storage building.
The facility has attracted elite BMX riders from all over New South Wales and is a quality destination for local and international riders and events.
