Conversion of brackish wastewater into a resource for industrial, construction, and irrigation purposes
Our team was appointed, following two successful projects for Origin Energy, to provide detailed design services for two proposed water treatment facilities as part of the Australia Pacific Liquefied Natural Gas (AP LNG) project. A joint venture between Origin, ConocoPhillips, and Sinopec, AP LNG will incorporate upstream gas and water gathering and treatment facilities, which are the first stage of the coal seam gas to the LNG production process.
We prepared the detailed design for two treatment plants specializing in microfiltration, ion exchange, and reverse osmosis. In addition, the design scope included earthen ponds for raw feed, brine reject, and brine concentrate water ponds. The result increases water recovery and lessens waste volumes for communities surrounding Surat and the Bowen Basin.
With this approach to treatment, AP LNG—the largest producer of natural gas in eastern Australia—is converting brackish (salty) wastewater into a usable resource for industrial, construction, and irrigation applications.
