Sourcing drinking water for a growing community
Faced with a growing population, the Kyogle Council needed to provide water to the town of Tabulam in northern New South Wales. They engaged our team to carry out a raw water options assessment for a proposed drinking water supply.
For any proposed potable water supply the planning needed to consider population and demand forecasts, raw water sources reliability and quality, intake locations, treatment plant options and locations, and the provision of a supply to the neighbouring community of Jubullum. Using a scoping study that investigated the Clarence River surface water and surrounding groundwater bores, we assessed each raw water option, individually and in combination with each other, to determine the most reliable source based on criteria we developed in conjunction with the Council.
Based on the outcomes of the tailored multi-criteria assessment, the Council has a range of viable recommendations on the preferred option to consider as they progress towards more reliable water supply for the community.
