Providing the civil engineering services for a new $400+ million medical campus at UT
The University of Texas at Austin Medical District (UTAMD) was developed as a partnership between the University of Texas at Austin, Ascension’s Seton Healthcare, and Central Texas Healthcare.
We helped by offering civil engineering services on the $400+ million, 1,000,000-square-foot project. Our goal? To create a world-class medical teaching facility in the heart of one of the world’s largest universities, while also keeping their campus fully operational.
The University engaged our team as prime consultant to provide engineering and landscape design services for Phase 1. We set the infrastructure for UTAMD and the rest of the Phase 1 projects, which included a research facility, a medical office complex, and a parking garage. Phase 1 also included the Dell Medical School Education and Administration Building, “a laboratory for medical education, clinical care, research, and healthcare redesign,” as well as a 220-bed teaching hospital with a focus on community medicine: Dell Seton Medical Center.
The University opened the Dell Medical School in June 2016—and it was the first medical school built from the ground up at a Tier 1 research university in decades. The teaching hospital, Dell Seton Medical Center, opened later in March 2017. Now, Austin has a new hub for healthcare, and UT is working to change the way both medical professionals and the community approach health.
