An intermodal facility that will incorporate a new bus transfer center with planned shops, restaurants, apartments, and a park
When the City of El Paso, Texas, was planning a robust, transit-oriented development around a rapid transit system, they called on our team to provide architectural and master plan services. We stepped in to help develop a signature project for the City of El Paso and for Sun Metro’s new transit program.
The Northgate Transfer Center, a $10.6 million, 93,353 square foot development, will be the northeast regional focal point for transit services to the Dyer RTS. This mixed-use transportation hub will not only drastically improve Sun Metro’s presence in the northeast—it will revitalize the former site of the abandoned Northgate Mall. The station itself will include enclosed waiting areas, canopies at bus bays with electronic on-street message boards, Wi-Fi throughout the entire transfer center, and ticketing and information offices.
Our design will result in a contemporary urban court, featuring custom shade structures, public art, and a flexible programming space to accommodate all travelers. The adjacent parking structure features storefront retail facing high-quality streetscape, while passenger loading occurs to the rear of both buildings and includes separated exclusive bus access for riders.
