Enhancing a corridor to accommodate more passengers on faster trains at higher frequencies
North Carolina has one of the nation’s most active state-sponsored rail program. The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is continually investing in the state rail network, primarily through the 161-mile-long (259-kilometre) Raleigh to Charlotte Piedmont corridor and the Raleigh to Richmond portions of the southeast corridor.
Our team is playing a key role in assisting NCDOT in the development of its statewide rail program by providing planning, environmental, funding, and engineering services. Our team of architects, planners, engineers, environmental scientists, and funding specialists leverage their technical expertise to support every aspect of NCDOT’s program. We have led National Environmental Policy Act evaluations and architectural and engineering design services for track improvement, passenger and multimodal station upgrades, and highway grade separations. We have also leveraged our North American Funding Program to deliver more than $25 million in awards and development program grant applications.
Ultimately, these projects have helped improve passenger rail service, create new access to industrial facilities, and enhance connectivity to ports and military facilities.
