Revitalizing a community with support from those who know it best
When a newly-developed bypass led to a 70% decrease in local traffic patterns, the City of Rolesville knew they needed to address the integrity of their downtown corridor while supporting economic development. But first, they were interested in hearing from the community on their expectations. That’s where our team stepped in—we instituted a charrette-based planning process to help Rolesville residents contribute to re-imagining their downtown.
The planning session helped the design team focus on repurposing Main Street into a safe, active, and attractive destination. The enhancement project also focused on spurring the local economy by encouraging more businesses and mixed-use developments within the corridor.
Designed to enhance the overall experience, our concept included bike lanes, planted median islands for access management, street lighting, intersection treatments, protected bikeways, meandering side paths, and connections to the greenway systems along a four-mile section of Main Street.
