Connecting more than 25,000 daily bus riders to their destinations
The Metro Orange Line is a busy, growing commercial lifeline for Los Angeles County that connects more than 25,500 daily bus riders to their destinations. With ridership expected to nearly double by 2030, Metro engaged us to manage construction for a 4-mile extension of the Orange Line into Southern California’s bustling San Fernando Valley.
To facilitate the project, we planned for existing active railroad crossings, the development of four new stations, three park and ride lots, a satellite bus parking facility, and the construction of three bridges, among other infrastructure improvements. Public feedback was incorporated to capture local architectural elements to complement views of nearby landscapes.
The extension opened ahead of schedule and under budget, providing local commuting alternatives and potential for reduced traffic congestion. The effort also lengthened an adjacent bikeway that is now the largest of its kind in the county. This project is a part of our ongoing indefinite quantity/indefinite delivery contract to support key infrastructure improvement within Metro’s 1,433 square mile service area where nearly one-third of California’s population resides.
