Creating a home for medical students in the heart of New Orleans
With no new housing development in the last 50 years, Louisiana State University (LSU) was looking to make student life on their downtown health campus more attractive and affordable for students. Their solution? A 579-bed medical student housing project located on their Health Science Center Campus in New Orleans
To help bring this project to life, we provided architecture, engineering, and interior design services as part of a public-private partnership with The Michaels Organization (TMO). The building offers students the option of studio, one bedroom, two bedroom, and three bedroom apartments. Designed to be a strong living-learning environment, the facility features various amenities and study spaces throughout its 10 levels, including outdoor covered grilling and fire pit areas, gaming, and swimming facilities, as well as a pet care station. Each level provides a variety of communal and study spaces for the residents, as well as larger multi-purpose, gathering and social lounges on the main floor.
The public amenity spaces throughout the building are an elevated design to attract residents to meet, share, study and feel welcome in the entry lounge and study lounges, and the wallcovering throughout the building was custom designed to enhance the interiors and tell the story and history of New Orleans. With the project now complete, medical students at LSU have a welcoming place they can be proud to call home.
