Supporting Scottish Water to meet its health and safety commitments
Scottish Water was embarking to define a new target operating model (TOM) for their Construction and Contracting (C&C) team’s health and safety provision. Ultimately, their goal was to be more effective in the delivery of their commitment to excellent health and safety performance.
Stantec was engaged to support Scottish Water by first understanding the current service provision. Our main challenge was to determine what needed to change and how to meet the needs of the organization and model a best practice approach. Following an assessment and benchmarking, we used a gap closure analysis to identify cost-effective and organizationally relevant solutions that were woven into a TOM and improvement roadmap before the final outputs. Key to the successful delivery of the project was the collaborative approach adopted by our project team and Scottish Water’s C&C management team. We shared outputs at regular milestones so they could be regularly reviewed and refined to arrive at the right solution.
Ultimately, the TOM and transformation plan uses a business partner model to drive better alignment and focus with delivery stakeholders. The lean, yet flexible structure to accommodate changes in workload, focus, and geographies so the team can provide the right level of specialist health and safety knowledge and expertise, where needed.
