Integrating an urban development plan, improving polluted sites, and promoting sustainable development of community land
Many unimproved contaminated sites in the Kaohsiung Asia’s New Bay Area called for an urban land and utilization plan to facilitate reclamation and development. This would include a sustainable assessment plan for the Commerce and Trade Park, Port of Kaohsiung, and surrounding areas.
Our team helped the City’s Environmental Protection Bureau execute environmental services to promote urban development while ensuring the quality of land. We first performed walkthroughs to verify remediation progress and subjected polluted sites to manage sites by different grades. Land valuation technology was then introduced to combine the site characteristics, and environmental and social aspects into an economic benefit evaluation. We also recorded the variation of unmanaged sites during construction to serve as reference for future land activation and reutilization. To ensure public engagement, we explained the strategic objectives of sustainable development and polluted land reclamation to the community.
Relevant evidence from soil and groundwater pollution surveys was preserved to facilitate the clarification of responsibility in the future. This multifunctional land reclamation will help drive the development of tourism and cultural industries to reshape Kaohsiung.
