A collaborative project focused on finding more effective ways of integrating wind energy into electricity systems
More than designing systems, we are helping secure future energy for our communities with our involvement in the NB Power PowerShift Atlantic project.
Led by NB Power and a consortium of maritime utilities and industry partners, the project demonstrates intelligent load management using a combination of intelligent hardware and software solutions, and improved wind forecasting tools to regulate customer loads and shift energy consumption. Stantec, with the help of sub-consultants SAIC and Accreon, is leading the project management on behalf of all project stakeholders. Stantec is also providing technological oversight and engineering design services to achieve the final solution.
With the proposed technologies, customer loads will be directly controlled by the utility in an aggregated manner that minimizes the effect on individual customers. This capability is enabled by the emerging communication and advanced control technologies of the Smart Grid. To the proponent's knowledge, controlling load in this manner has never been done before. The success of this project will bring tremendous benefits to the electric and wind industry.
