This non-standard way of delivering a building meant tailored our technical advice to meet the needs of clients and stakeholders

The Surgical, Treatment, and Rehabilitation Service (STARS) will form the first part of the Herston Quarter redevelopment in Brisbane, Queensland. Providing specialised care for long stay acute rehabilitation patients, this healthcare building will offer a patient-centred model of care focused on family involvement.

Our team was engaged by Metro North Hospital and Health Services as the engineering technical advisors, providing technical leadership, advice, and risk management. A public project, STARS will offer a diverse range of services including inpatient, outpatient, education, research, and retail—meaning we had to tailor our advice. Acting as part of Metro North’s team, we helped guide project delivery that maximised quality, care, and value for money. Remaining only as advisors, our team met the needs of the client and stakeholders within this non-standard operating and delivery model.

Ultimately, our advice and leadership helped deliver STARS in a way that offers Brisbane a care environment providing staff everything they need to get their jobs done safely while focusing on the patient, allowing families to participate in care, and deliver quality outcomes.
