Supporting the optimal operation of a water supply system, from source to tap, for more than 1 million customers
In 2010, South Australia Water (SA Water) invested in the Adelaide Desalination Plant and the North South Interconnector System to improve their metropolitan supply network’s operational flexibility. As part of this investment, SA Water needed to develop two main digital transformation projects—a suite of decision support tools that maintain the water supply and operations planning for over 1 million customers and a live hydraulic operations model of the metropolitan Adelaide network. Our job? Complete both projects.
After the initial digital support tools were completed in 2014, we were engaged to expand on the network operations model to include outer metropolitan areas. This enhancement brought coverage for almost all of SA Water's 1.4 million customers. After that, in 2019, we completed a full re-build, refresh, and validation of the network operations model that included training and handover to new staff at SA Water and expansion to country areas across South Australia to provide similar modelling and capabilities across all potable water networks.
This system is one of the largest and more complex live operations models built, and with this tool in hand SA Water uses is better able to ensure quality service for their metropolitan and country customers.
