Carefully coordinated mechanical engineering design maintains comfort and appeal at residential waterfront development
The striking Proximity Hamilton, a residential waterfront development on the Brisbane River, is situated in Brisbane’s Portside Wharf. This luxury apartment is positioned at one of the main entrances to the site, close to the passenger ship terminal.
Our team was tasked with the mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic engineering design for this 15-storey, 127-unit building. To ensure comfort within the residential spaces, we configured air-conditioning to all living, dining, and master bedroom areas, with exhaust air from each apartment discharged horizontally from the façade. Our design also incorporated a car park exhaust that required careful discharge positioning to avoid nuisance to passing occupants. Similarly, a close working relationship with the landscape consultant allowed for the car park air intakes to be discreetly positioned within ground floor planter and seating areas.
As the building is one of eight towers in the area, we ensured no mechanical systems were visible on the roof—all were fitted within the core of the building’s 15th story. Careful co-ordination between our electrical and hydraulic teams ensured this was achieved with minimal impact to the external façade, maintaining the development’s luxury appeal.
