Collaborating on a boutique stadium for future generations
Australians love to come together to connect and share in special moments at local sports facilities. So, when asked to help provide solutions for the future home of the Brisbane Lions Australian Football League Women’s (AFLW) team, at Brighton Homes Arena, we jumped in. The club's new home—a 10,000-capacity stadium, offices, training facilities for both men’s and women’s teams is a first in professional sport. Before the vision of the new facility could begin, the future site had to be removed from the Queensland Department of Environment and Sciences (DES) Environmental Management Register (EMR).
To make the project happen, our team successfully managed the environmental and contaminated land investigations—relocation of Mountain Creek, to create a suitable site footprint, realignment of regional trunk sewerage, provision of trunk stormwater drainage, initial site earthworks, and water reticulation connections had to be completed. We designed civil works for stormwater quality and quantity management infrastructure, playing field drainage, external road upgrades, car parking, pedestrian areas, and cycleway infrastructure connections.
In partnership with the AFL, Department of Transport and Main Roads, Queensland Rail, Ipswich City Council, COHA Group, and the Department of Fisheries, we collaborated to see this project come to life within the legislative requirements, surrounding development, and public transport infrastructure needs.
