Providing a place for ball players to gather and thrive
The crack of a bat, cheering, dogs barking—these are all sounds you’ll hear at Wescott Park in North Charleston. When the city envisioned a new park for the Dixie Youth Baseball League and the community, Stantec’s landscape architects and engineers made that vision a reality.
Inspired by the Major League’s skyline views at Atlanta’s Turner Field, the Green Monster at Fenway Park and splash hits into McCovey Cove at AT&T Park, we designed the park’s three ball fields as small scale replicas—complete with sunken dugouts and in-ground terraced seating. Prior to playing ball, teams can use the Cal Ripken practice facility’s batting cages, pitching mounds and practice circle.
Besides baseball, Wescott Park offers boardwalks through natural areas, a dog park, a sand volleyball court, and several picnic shelters. Our team provided master planning, detailed design, construction documents, and construction administration services for the project. We worked closely with the community and the client to design a park for the children of North Charleston to enjoy and someday tell their own children about.
