Protecting our cold-blooded friends
We conducted the Blunt-Nosed Leopard Lizard (BNLL) surveys under protocol developed by the San Joaquin Valley Southern Sierra Region of the California Department of Fish and Game, with input from the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, the Bureau of Land Management, and various species experts. The surveys were required prior to placing oil well pads to avoid harming individual BNLL species and habitat. We used mapping of occurrences and home ranges of species to site well pads.
The surveys also included the identification and GPS mapping of other protected, endangered, or animal species associated with BNLL habitat. Working in a hot, arid climate, and sometimes rough terrain, our team of up to 20 seasoned biologists and scientists from Stantec offices across the US.
