Transforming a public roadway to an enhanced entry plaza and event space for Bridgeport Hospital
Bridgeport Hospital and Yale New Haven Health aim to transform a public roadway that traverses the center of the campus and their primary entry space into a private drive, an enhanced entry plaza and an event space. The new space will serve visitors, staff, and specialized medical and outpatient services.
Stantec’s planning and landscape architecture team is leading the design of the transformation of approximately 450 feet of Grant Street, an existing city street, to a new pedestrian plaza and hospital entry drive. The design features an articulated walkway accessible by emergency vehicles, landform and landscape, distinctive pavements, a circular drop off and pickup area, covered walkway, and sculptural water feature.
The street will be converted to a pedestrian friendly hospital campus space to host special events, welcome visitors, and provide safe access to the hospital's central parking facility. It will greatly enhance access, egress and aesthetics while complementing Bridgeport Hospital's importance to the community, the city, and the region.
