Bringing low energy lighting to the city’s underground
Continuing our contribution to the low energy agenda and reducing maintenance costs for Transport for London (TfL), our mechanical and electrical engineering teams have partnered with Tube Lines Ltd (TLL) to support their lighting upgrade project of the Jubilee, Northern, and Piccadilly train lines.
We upgraded all public area station lighting, replacing obsolete and life-expired equipment and systems to comply with current standards for lighting in public areas. Our work involved upgrades to 26 surface stations and then continued to incorporate the underground stations on the line, including Euston.
The work is part of a program of low energy lighting refurbishment that will not only deliver significant reductions in energy and carbon use, but also save millions of pounds in replacement lighting and maintenance costs over time—a significant return on investment for TfL.
