St. Columban Wind Energy Project
Canada is a world leader in energy use from renewable resources. In electricity generation, the country’s primary mover is hydro (59.3%), but the second most important resource is wind (6%). In 2016, Canada ranked eighth in the world in wind power generation—and the majority of Canada’s current wind farms are in Ontario.
As part of an engineering, procurement, and construction general contract in Seaforth Ontario, our teams worked on the design, studies, start-up, and technical support for two wind farms, St. Columban1 (18MW) and St. Columban2 (15MW). We completed detailed substation design (including electrical, protection and control, and SCADA), structural and civil design, power system studies, and electrical safety authority and connection assessment permit approvals. Other work included general coordination of project stakeholders, construction support, and SCADA commissioning.
Another step in the country’s move towards a renewable energy future, these two wind farms and their combined 33 megawatts of energy further add to Canada’s current installed capacity of 11,898 megawatts of wind-powered electricity.
