Line A1 of The Réseau Express Métropolitain
The Réseau express métropolitain (REM) is a fully electric and automated light rail train serving the greater Montreal metropolitan area. This large-scale project will be carried out in three phases, the first of which is now complete: the opening of the A1 line connecting the South Shore to downtown Montreal through a route of five ultramodern, bright, and universally accessible stations.
Once all phases of the project have been completed, the REM will become the largest integrated public transit infrastructure in Quebec with its 67-kilometre (42-mile) network and 26 stations, linking downtown Montreal to the South Shore, the West Island, the North Shore, and Montreal-Trudeau International Airport. Multiple Stantec teams are collaborating on this project. For this first phase, our experts provided engineering services for lighting, drainage, civil works, and structural engineering, as well as environmental services. We continue to work on the next phases of the project, which is scheduled to be commissioned at the end of 2024 (West Island and Center of Montreal branches) and 2027 (airport branch).
Now in service, the REM’s A1 line offers South Shore resident a fast, reliable, and safe way to get downtown. Users can now travel in comfortable, heated, and air-conditioned cars, 20 hours a day, 7 days a week.
