With more than three decades of transportation experience, Dean’s worked on a variety of roadway design projects ranging from bridge replacement designs and rural and urban widenings to new-location interstates and interchanges.
One of his most interesting projects was the NC 150 Environmental Assessment. The project presented many different challenges including a historic district, a deep lake crossing, high traffic volumes, and numerous site developments. On this more-than $200M, 15-mile-long endeavor, Dean was the senior planning and roadway design engineer leading the preliminary design effort including 16 superstreet intersections, a continuous flow intersection, and a tight diamond interchange.
On the weekends, you’ll find Dean being a handyman, fixing and maintaining things for himself or his neighbors—or inventing and fabricating something new that makes their lives better.
