Michael is a mechanical engineer with more than 30 years of experience, primarily with waterpower and wind projects. At Stantec, he takes care of the hydropower and dams business across Canada.
Hydropower, a century-old technology, is experiencing a renaissance today as our power systems need to de-carbonize. This leads to many asset-optimization projects to refurbish existing plants. In his work, Michael gets to take designs left behind by engineers from generations past, figure out what they had in mind, analyze new technical options within environmental, social, and economic constraints, and then put it all back together into a modern, reliable, efficient, and sustainable power plant. Working with people who find as much purpose in dealing with this intellectually stimulating puzzle as he does is what he enjoys most.
Outside work, Michael has been building a small cabin in the woods with his own hands. There, he likes contemplating the big questions of this (hydropowered) world.
