As a project manager, Tom is mostly involved in floodplain management and mapping projects. He provides input and consultation services for clients, and he conducts outreach and community engagement to bring people on board with floodplain projects. For 13 years, Tom was the technical expert for the State of Kansas and their primary contact for floodplain-related activities.
Currently, he serves as the Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM) representative to the Community Rating System (CRS) Task Force, and he’s always looking for ways to improve the benefits of CRS for communities. Tom also worked on case studies for watershed plans in Iowa under the Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) National Disaster Resilience Competition (NDRC) program, outlining issues related to flooding in the East and West Nishnabotna Rivers.
When he isn’t at work, Tom might be reading, fishing, or chasing his children around at their various activities.
